Challenge To Graduates

As an educator, graduation is a normal part of my year.  It is seen by many as the end of an era, life chapter, stage, or season of life.  This is true as graduation is typically the final ceremony after completing all of your requirements.  However, graduation is more of a beginning than an end.

Graduation marks the beginning of a new chapter and a new season of life.  Sure, there is uncertainty, but that comes will all things new.  For those of you graduating this May, here are 3 challenges that I believe will make a positive difference in your life.

1. Don't get cable tv.  You don't need shows to watch that suck you in.  If you really want to watch something bad enough, plan ahead and watch the shows/games at a friends house or restaurant.  You'll save about $50 a month which is $600 a year!

2. Be a producer. So much of our society is focused around consuming.  We get so focused on what to buy, watch, read, listen to, wear, eat, etc that we forget to create or produce things for others to consume.  Find ways that you can use your gifts and talents to produce.  You'll find it's so much better than consuming.

3.  Create an EPIC Story! - The reason we get sucked into movies, TV shows, fiction books, and even video games is the storyline.  Why waste time sitting around watching everyone else's fake stories when you can create your own.  Be adventurous!  Be spontaneous!  Travel!  Be crazy!  Be bold and courageous!  Go looking for challenges!  Live your life in such a way that people would want to read about it.

4.  Find your purpose.  Your purpose is to love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength and to bring Him glory in all that you do.  The tricky part is figuring out how to glorify God, provide for your family, and find an occupation at the same time.  For some it is already clear.  For others it will be tricky and you will search for your purpose in life for a long time.  Although it can be, your job is not your purpose.  How you conduct yourself and live your life has everything to do with your purpose.  Consistently pray and ask God to show you the balance.

What advice would you give those graduating this year?
