"If you want to be successful in anything you have to be first, best, or different."
It took me a while to process that statement but there is certainly some truth to that. Being the first, best, or different at something certainly could get you to the top. But I think there is something else that typically leads to success and that is consistency.
The difference between a minor league baseball player and major league baseball player is consistency. Everybody has good games but major leaguers have them more consistently.
The reason McDonalds is so successful is consistency. Their food isn't out of this world but there is comfort in knowing that you could go to any McDonalds in America and get the same product.
The difference between a good teacher and a great teacher is consistency. A good teacher may have a good lesson and make a positive difference once or twice a week while a great teacher pumps out good lessons and makes a difference daily.
The reason people love Honda's is because they are consistent. It's not uncommon for a Honda owner to drive over 200,000 because it consistently starts and runs well everyday.
The best parents, teachers, and principals are consistent with their discipline. The best newspapers, blogs, and magazines consistently produce quality reading material. The best preachers consistently communicate their message every week.
If you want to be successful you have to be consistent. Being first, best, or different might get you to the top. Being consistent keeps you there.
What comes to mind when you think of consistency?
(It goes without saying that if you are consistently average, mediocre, or bad then you will not be successful.)
