The more we learn

As a parent of a 1 year old, it is amazing to see how much they learn.  He quickly copies what we say and do.  He is learning to make animal sounds and point to his ears, nose, fingers, and toes.  He is learning to say milk, please, thank you, yes, no, and so much more.  It's a lot of fun to see what he will be able to do each day.  He is also walking, running, climbing, throwing, and exploring.  He can eat and drink by himself, get on and off the couch, up stairs, down one step, off the bed, and into and out of the bathtub.

All of these things are great because the more he is able to do, the less we have to do.  But then again, the more he is able to do, the more we have to do to keep him safe.  We have to keep him from walking out the front door, playing with outlets, running into the wall, falling off of the slide, slamming his finger in cabinet doors, playing in the toilet, and all of the other things that a 1 year old boy does.

It seems like the more he learns, the more we have to teach him.  I suppose this is a variation of "to whom much is given, much is required."  Or "with great reward comes great responsibility."   Both of which are certainly true in this example because the more he learns to do, the more we have to teach him how to do it correctly.

As parents, we are so excited what he will learn next.  Perhaps the more he learns, the more we learn about parenting, about God, about ourselves, and about each other.

What have you learned from your kids?
