Valentine's Day!

Valentine's Day.  You either love it or hate it.

Love is in the air.  Girls are showered with flowers, chocolates, stuffed animals, and romantic dress up dinners.  Guys might get some candy or manly gift but must likely just prefer a kiss from their special someone.

For some Valentine's Day isn't as fun.  Perhaps is reminds them that they don't have a special someone. Or maybe they have someone but they didn't get the gift they wanted or their expectations weren't met.

Although I'm not a huge fan of Valentine's Day, I do like that it is a reminder to do something special for someone in your life.  There is never harm in that.

The problem is when we begin to compare.  We compare our gift to our friends gift.  Our night to our co-workers night.  We compare this year to last year.  And before we know it we are comparing our valentine to someone else's valentine.  Bad idea.

Ladies, don't compare.  Nothing good will come of it.  What gets rewarded gets repeated.  If you got a card, flowers, chocolate, a dinner date, or anything whatsoever, be thankful and grateful make sure you show your appreciation.  Word to the wise, if you act disappointed, hold it over his head, or talk about how sweet so and so's husband is, you will crush his spirit and next year he will put forth less effort.  But if you show him how excited, happy, and appreciative you are, he'll try to outdo himself next year.

This is one of the many things I love about my wife.  If I get her a gift or do something nice, she reacts as though I bought her a diamond ring or done the sweetest thing in the world.  When I know how special it makes her feel, it makes me feel even better and I will do it again!

Be encouraging Valentines!
